Waitresses

Don loved to eat out; he loved even more to treat his family to dinner out. The number didn't matter, he always seemed to find a way to make ends meet while spoiling the crowd. I have more than 35 years of memories of very special times dining out with him and his family at a wide range of unique venues from country settings over looking horses to downtown Japanese Teppanyaki bars with the chefs flinging food onto the plates in front of you from the grill; from lobsters around the campfire on the east coast to dinner theatre in Seattle on the west coast. Don loved to kabitz with the waitresses and show off his dry humour. Many took him on immediately while others required time to appreciate how sincere he was and how well he tipped. Not all jokes went over well (handkerchief) but they made the occasions even more memorable. The photo is of Don and Heather with Pitra, the cocktail waitress on the Serenade of the Seas in 2009. Every night she would come to the table to peddle the cocktail of the night, each with very suggestive names. Don, always aware of his role to set the example of clean living, had to show shock at the use of such language. He couldn't wait for her to show up the next night and by the final night, Pitra was adorning him with kisses. When asked what he wanted for desert, invarably he would say "nothing". Well on the Serenade, "nothing" always comes with a flare!
